Wish Upon a Star

"Blue is my favorite color and when I saw this, I just had to have it!"  I.L.

'Wish Upon a Star' is a result of  a Photoshop experiment.  The image I laid out on illustration board was natural leaf colors (greens & yellows) and the woman was plucking flower petals saying "He loves me, he loves me not!"  But I wanted to try to make the water from leaves also.  I manipulated the colors to dark blue and set that image aside. When I saw it later in my file, I caught my breath! I liked it better than the natural colored version!  I replaced the flower petals (and a boat in the water) with a shooting star and torch. There was a lot of tweaking with this one. The sky and torch came in too light and the skirt was too dark! Ugh....I love happy accidents!!

Dress is rhubarb, sleeves are milkweed, bodice is poplar. Hair is corn silk, (a new discovery!), face and hands are aged Sassafras leaves. Rocks are Coltsfoot and rhubarb. The torch is aged Queen Anne's Lace flower with barberry leaf tucked inside. She stands on green moss though it's probably hard to tell. Hair, face and bodice are highlighted by the torch. The water is rhubarb and Coltsfoot Photoshopped to their own shade of blue.

As leaves are biodegradable and will fade and deteriorate quickly, original Art is scanned immediately after creation, preserving their beauty long after originals are gone.   Enjoy!
