I started Moonlight Prowl a while ago. I had the Mom cat and leaves along the bottom placed and I knew what kitten image I wanted but hadn't made it yet. I also knew I wanted to include the moon in the sky which I stole from my other image titled "There Once Was a Bug Who Loved the Moon". I've been wanting to create a collection of cat images for us cat lovers and this was one I wanted to include.
What Leaves were used?I was inspired by the large brown & green Maple leaves for the Mom cat, with the black spots. I learned that the black spots are a disease called Tar Spot disease. I LOVE learning new stuff! The kitten is a combo of light & darker Maple. The nearly black (or dark green) Maple leaves along the bottom are Norway Maple. I absolutely loved the purple Persian Shield leaves in combo with them! Very lush...
I had a hard time deciding what color to make the red moths as it seemed red was the only color that showed up well. I didn't want them the same color as the cats or purple leaves. So red it is! Barberry leaves.
The spotted green & white leaf on the right is a Polka Dot plant leaf. The white/gray leaf below it is a Kiwi- it has this little green edge on it.
A couple of fun surprises! I had originally wanted all the moths to be the brown ones and placed in the watercolor background...I didn't like them. BUT when I placed one on the black leaves it was lush, like the purple leaves! When I lightened one it seemed to be OK next to kitten. Then...I was looking through my stash of scanned leaves on my computer and I found an image of a Banana leaf that was curled. My wee brain said "that's a Snail". So I love my little Snail below the Polka Dot leaf. His foot is made of grass on it's side.
ENJOY!
